A woman travelling alone through Indian railways was helped by the authorities after she tweeted directly to the Rail Minister’s twitter account. She was travelling on an outstation train in Maharashtra when she sensed something wrong around her.
She tweeted that a male passenger was harassing her, specifying the train number in which she was travelling. The tweet was noted within minutes by a senior official who contacted the Central Railway Chief PRO for the matter. When train reached Bhusaval she was given the required help. When asked by the officers what kind of trouble she was facing she said that the man had a wait-listed ticket and his behaviour and body language did not seem to be decent and since she was travelling alone, she felt terrified.
The male passenger was shifted to another coach as he had a valid ticket. Also Railway Ministry appealed to dial 182, The emergency helpline, 182, for any kind of help during travel.
