What if our future children could talk to us and tell us what will happen to them in the future? What if daughters tell their dad the dangers of being born a girl? That is exactly the context of this very moving ad campaign produced by the Norwegian- based organization CARE. CARE advocates on women’s rights and campaigns against violence against women.
In this video, a daughter warns her father about boys and the dangers of being born a girl. The video speaks of the realities of being a female. Whether as a child, adolescent and even as an adult, females are very prone to violence. Women may recall enduring “harmless cat-calls” and “sexual innuendos just for fun”. Some may not fare as lucky and may be victims of rape and domestic violence.
She recounts boys calling girls “whore, cunt, slut” and other derogatory remarks just for fun. But what if those “funny name-calling ” and “harmless dirty jokes” become the precursor for our beloved daughter to be raped? Or for guys to think it is okay to shove their hands into a girl’s privates because they were made to believe girls are whores, made to be men’s pleasure things? What if all those harmless things we let slip by every day, becomes the reason for domestic violence?
All the negative things happening around us are due to our dwindling morals as a society. Let us uphold a life that respects and care for one another.
