The reports suggest that every third male has consumed drugs once, which clearly shows how bad the condition is. The drugs enter Punjab through the international border shared by the state with Pakistan. Punjab Police estimates that drugs worth INR 2,000 crore are transiting through Punjab and at least 350 packets of heroine make their gateway to India everyday.

Drugs alone is not the problem as the state consumes around 29 crore bottles of liquor and beer. This makes Punjab one of the highest per capita liqour consumers in the world.
