At the Newshour debate, hosted by Arnab Goswami, on Whether The National Flag Should Be Fly On all Central Government Institutes Or Not things took a completely different turn. First and foremost it is unfortunate that prime time debates are about our National Flag should be hosted or not. Hearing the mindset of people who were against hoisting our tricolour, Retd. Major General G D Bakshi got emotional and could not control his tears.

Later, HRD minister Smriti Irani called at the Newshour and gave a message to Retd. Maj. Gen. Bakshi. In her message she made clear that what she was going to say was as an Indian citizen and not as any minister of the government.
She said to Retd. Maj. Gen. Bakshi,”It is the greatest tragedy of my nation today that I see tears in the eyes of a brave soldier like you. Sir we are grateful for your sacrifices, we are grateful for your service. And under the flag, every Indian, knowingly and unknowingly, know this, we will be grateful for ever.”
