A shocking incident was reported in Alwar, Rajasthan when a 30-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by her husband and his two brothers. They later tattooed expletives on her forehead and hand. The reason for such an act was that her family could not fulfil their dowry demand.

This inhumane behaviour was shown as the victim’s family could not fulfil their demand of Rs 51,000 as dowry. The case was registered at Mahila police station (Jaipur North) where a member of Rajasthan state commission for women, Somya Gurjar, with the chairperson of the commission, Suman Sharma, came to visit the victim.

If all of what had happened with the victim was not enough the ladies from the ‘commission for women’ posed with her as if they have not come to visit a woman who had suffered but some casual event where a ‘selfie’ had to be clicked. They were busy with their mobile devices ignorant of the pain the women who was sitting next to them was going through.

The matter came to light when someone clicked of Gurjar taking the selfie and circulated it. In the pictures, Gurjar is seen holding the mobile device and the Chairperson is also looking in the frame.

The women’s panel chief expressed regret at the incident. “The other Commission member took the picture without my knowledge; I don’t approve of it. It was wrong,” Sharma said. “I asked her (Gurjar) about the incident and she said she took the picture to cheer up the victim, as she was depressed. “Still, I have asked for a written reply.”
