Sexist Rules in The College; Kajal, Lipstick, Mehendi and Nail Art Not Allowed

We are progressing in terms of technology, healthcare, and other sectors but what I didn’t know was that we were progressing in terms of stupidity too. In this age too there are sexist rules that prevail in our society and the educational institutions make sure every student abides by such rules by calling them disciplinary rules.

At St. Aloysius Pre-University College, Mangalore, a set of rules were read out to girls on their orientation. We can bet if you will read those rules you will be shocked and you will definitely be saying WTF!

The rules have been posted by Satshya Anna Tharien, an alumni of the same college. She shared them on her blog saying she thought that St. Aloysius PU College would grow with the times but they clearly haven’t.

College authorities have said that the document is not distributed by them neither does it have any authorised signature but many students have affirmed to the above rules. They also said that these rules were conveyed to them verbally in college.

What kind of sexism do they want to imbibe in young minds? Why are they even called co-educational when they ask girls and boys not to talk to each other? Why is talking to a guy looked down on? These horrendous rules are sexist in all ways and not at all disciplinary.

If the educational institutions are imposing such rules then we should know from where those blaming the victim and her clothes for everything that goes wrong with her comes from. This clearly shows no matter how educated people get, their mentality does not change. They are living in the 21st century but they only know to which era they belong to.

Dear institutions, you are not disciplining young minds by setting such ridiculous rules that impose so many restrictions on girls and very few for guys, you are making them think that it is always the girl’s fault. Your such rules are making them believe that makeup or tattoos or their appearance are responsible if, God forbid, anything wrong happens to them.

Things like these make us realise how difficult the battle for gender equality is going to be but one needs to voice out these incidents and realise how wrong these things are.
