So you think that Leonardo DiCaprio is unlucky because he has not won Oscar yet? Well, let me tell you guys how lucky Leonardo is.
The 41-year-old actor has escaped death thrice. “My friends have named me the person they least want to do extreme adventures with because I always seem to be very close to being part of a disaster,” the actor told Wired.
The handsome actor has found himself in some seriously nerve-racking situations in the past. “If a cat has nine lives, I think I’ve used a few,” said Leonardo.
Now let me share with you Leonardo’s near-death experiences.
1. The shark in the cage
Leonardo was diving in a cage in South Africa, when a shark accidentally jumped into his cage. The top of the cage was open with a regulator line running to the surface. The divers were launching tuna into the water, when a wave came and the tuna flipped up into the air. A shark jumped up to grab the tuna, and half its body landed inside the cage with Leonardo. “I sort of fell down to the bottom and tried to lie flat. The great white (shark) took about five or six snaps an arm’s length away from my head. The guys there said that has never happened in the 30 years they’d been doing it,” said Leo.
2. The flight that ended in flames
Leonardo was travelling in the business class of a Delta Airlines flight to Russia, when an engine blew up in front of his eyes. He saw the entire wing explode in a fireball. “They shut all the engines off for a couple of minutes, so you’re just sitting there gliding with absolutely no sound, and nobody in the plane was saying anything. It was a surreal experience. They started the engines back up, and we did an emergency landing at JFK,” he said.
3. Skydiving
Leonardo almost fell to death after his parachute got knotted up during a tandem skydive. “I didn’t even think about the extra chute, so I thought we were just plummeting to our death,” said Leonardo. His partner pulled the second parachute that was knotted up too. He kept shaking it in mid-air till it opened.
