Aamir Khan had joined the debate over rising intolerance in India. He was speaking at the eighth edition of the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, and shared that he felt “alarmed” by a number of incidents. He added that his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should move out of the country as she feared for the safety of their children in a climate of insecurity.
“(Wife) Kiran and I have lived all our lives in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India? That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make to me. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers everyday. So that does indicate that there is a sense of growing disquiet,” he said.
These comments made by Aamir have provoked sharp reactions from various politicians, celebrities, and public. Even veteran actor Anupam Kher who has acted in many films with him reacted to Aamir’s statement.
Anupam Kher asked Aamir that “when did Incredible India became Intolerant India?” in a series of tweets.
These are the reactions of Anupam Kher to Aamir’s tweet..
Dear @aamir_khan. Did you ask Kiran which country would she like to move out to? Did you tell her that this country has made you AAMIR KHAN.

Dear @aamir_khan. When did ‘Incredible India’ become ‘Intolerant India’ for you? Only in the last 7-8 months? #AtithiDevoBhavah

Dear @aamir_khan Presumed country has become #Intolerant. Wat do u suggest 2 millions of Indians? Leave India? Or wait till regime changes?
— Anupam Kher (@AnupamPkher) November 23, 2015
Dear @aamir_khan. #SatyamevaJayate u talked about evil practices but gave Hope. So even in ‘Intolerant’ times u need 2 spread Hope not Fear.
