The Delhi Police have arrested two persons, Dinesh and Nazmul Arifin, who cheated people seeking to get their goods released for the customs department at the airport. They used to pose as customs officials and wait for their target outside the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
“The duo has been arrested and we have solved two cases of cheating. The complainant in the case has alleged that their relatives came to the IGI airport and their goods were seized by customs officials. They gave their documents to advocate to file an appeal for the release of their goods. Later, they received calls from a person who introduced himself as a customs official and said he can get their goods released from the warehouse.” said Sanjay Bhatia, DCP.
They met the said customs official and after a few days, he called the complainant to tell him that their consignment has been cleared and they will have to deposit the duty. The imposers took 10 lakh rupees from him as customs duty. Another complainant was of duped 5.57 lakh rupees.
During the investigation, Dinesh told that he stole the files and records of the case and contacted the complainants.
