Men Are Made To Believe They Are Superior, Says Rajeev Khandelwal

In recent past so much is being said about gender equality. Everyday women are fighting for their rights. In every sphere of life they are struggling just because our society is biased towards men. It has become a battle of sexes which is not about winning but being equal to each other.

At the recent US Consulate’s “Women’s Safety and Empowerment” short film festival the actor commented about the tendency of Indian men to feel superior than women. They think they are men that is why they are entitled to special privileges.

In our society from the day a child is born most of the times a boy is given a special treatment in some way or the other. Most of the times willingly or unwillingly guys are preferred over girls. This treatment makes men think they are superior because that is the way they are treated from childhood.

At the festival Rajeev said “Men should start asking themselves why do they feel superior or are better than women. I think the enlightenment would lie in the question. We get used to our society, the system. As a man I would say, we get conditioned by just looking around, we don’t really apply our mind, we just feel a boy is little more superior and privileged than a girl”.

He said this can only be broken when men question themselves that what have they done in their lives which give them this privilege and superiority.

Giving example from his own home he said “I have maintained a lot of sanctity in my house because I believe my wife is contributing as much, if not more, than what I am doing. Its an inward, equal journey where action speaks louder than words”.

With such thoughts of Rajeev Khandelwal we can completely say there are people who are with us to support women in their battle for gender equality.
