Music has no language and one can convey their emotions through music. This is the story of Sonita Alizadeh, a girl who grew up in Tehran, Iran. Her parents had fled Afganistan when she was 8. In a place where undocumented Afghan kids were taught she learnt karate, photography, guitar, singing and rapping.

But things changed when her mom told her ‘You have to return to Afghanistan with me. There’s a man there who wants to marry you. Your brother’s engaged and we need your dowry money to pay for his wedding.’. She was devastated and that is when she wrote the song ‘Brides for sale’.

In the video she is in a wedding dress, bruised badly with a barcode on her forehead, appealing not to sell her. She was apprehensive about what her parents will think about it but they loved it.

The song is in Persian but with English subtitles it is really touching.
