Bant Singh, a labourer from Jhabhar village of Mansa district in Punjab has started a movement against injustice. He is an activist fighting against the economical disparity and against rich land owners. He is not doing this through protest marches or filing PILs. He is doing his bit through music with soul stirring lyrics.
‘Chords of Change‘ is a new online series, an original by Ditto TV. It is a series documenting the struggle and fight of brave hearts that are battling all odds through music.
In the year 2000, Bant Singh’s minor daughter was raped by upper caste men. He voiced against the injustice no matter how much money they offered the poor man. When money did not help, the gave him life threats. But he fought against all odds and this resulted in the conviction of three culprits in 2004. This was not a small thing in the region as it was may for the first time that a dalit had won against the upper caste.
You think he won his battle? No. This was not the end. One day in 2006, while returning home he was beaten by seven men so badly that he was barely alive. They had beaten him so brutually that his both lower arms and a leg had to be amputated due to severe injuries.
Nothing could stop Bant Sigh, not even his injuries. He still protests against injustice through his music. He is demanding justice through his voice as they cannot stop his songs. Music has the power to transform, bad to good and wrong to right.
We truly salute his spirit to fight.
