How many times have you felt that life treated you unfairly? You didn’t deserve it! The wind was blowing in your direction, life was going as planned, you had dreams; resources; support when one significant event turned your life upside down. You met with an accident, lost your job, lost a close one, got diagnosed with a major illness and so on. Apart from these, your daily life struggles, ongoing health issues, family problems and other stressful circumstances can really test your patience howsoever composed and well-equipped you may be. Time and experience has taught me that reacting to a cumbersome situation with your fury of emotions often drowns your pragmatic side to accept the inevitable and do something about it. Slapping blames, cribbing, being pessimistic and sulking all the time just prolongs our misery.
Charles R Swindoll rightly puts it,” Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it”. Attitude is one string that we completely control which facilitates our adaption to changed circumstances or bouncing back from an unpleasant situation. I too had my share of ups and downs in life and who knows, what future holds for me. I have had major inferiority complex where I suffered from a poor self-image, under confidence, lack of will to try new things, underevaluation of my skills and phobias of new people; places and unfamiliar surroundings. It wreaked havoc in my life with bouts of depression and incessant sessions of crying. Coupled with personality issues and some major anxiety disorders, I also had some chronic health problems blocking my bright perception of life. I wished if I could skip this phase and fast forward to a promising life where I had a better self-concept. But with time, dawned the realization that life comes in a wholesome package and it is up to us to accept it or squarely toss it. I started taking things lightly, accepted my mood swings, appreciated myself more, grabbed every opportunity and life smiled back. Your attitude is the ultimate game changer to your healthier and happier self. And to say the least, you have everything else only if you have “health”.
I recently came across this interesting video where the strong and determined protagonist conveys a subtle yet intense message about health and promises. In this heartfelt video, ICICI Lombard beautifully brings out this message of “doing the difficult” to fulfill the promises made to your loved ones because easy is too cliché. The video coyly toys with your feelings when you relate to “the snow runner” cravings on a cold winter morning but also delivers a very potent and profound message on 2 accounts. It encourages you to start prioritizing your health and wellness over comfort and also staying true to your words while committing to a fitter self to your family.
Time to take some inspiration!
