Periods is something which we don’t talk about openly.
Transsexuality is another thing which we don’t talk about openly.
We live in an era where we talk about equality and other things but sometimes these are things just said. Periods is something half the population in this world experiences. The market for sanitary products is working at such a large scale. But whenever you see an advertisement of sanitary pads its a girl struggling through her periods.
Is it only girls who go through periods? NO.
Even trans men experience this. But has someone ever thought about them or even considered them a potential client for their product.
This is something that Miki Agrawal thought over. Miki Agrawal is the CEO of the company Thinx. A brand that makes ‘Period Panties’. The product is self absorbing in nature and was launched with the tagline ‘Underwear for Women With Periods’.
After this she received emails telling her that women are not the only one who experience periods. These emails made her think which didn’t came to her mind earlier. Trans men were also a part of her clientèle and she needs to make a product keeping them in mind. She herself was surprised that how she had not worked on it before. May be the way we don’t talk openly about such things is the reason for that.
Miki knew that her aim was to end the taboo attached with periods no matter who was going through it. She educated herself with her team about it started turning this idea in reality. They wanted to make the product no matter it turns into a best seller or not. The company has launched ‘boyshort cut’ keeping in mind the requirements for trans sexual men.
The main purpose of Thinx is to remove the stigma attached with periods. They believe that people should talk about it openly. The taboos attached to it should end. It should not be taken as something about which no one should know but something which is natural. Periods is something healthy and the one having it should not be treated as if they are some one dirty or something of that sort.
