Being depressed can make you feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable, ashamed, or restless. You should see a therapist if you are suffering from depression. But along with therapy and medication, there are some things you should change in your lifestyle to fight depression.
1. Exercise
Exercise does not only bring you in shape, it may also have long term benefits for people suffering from depression. Exercise instantly lifts up your mood. It temporarily boosts the feel-good chemicals called endorphins. Regular exercise seems to encourage the brain to rewire itself in positive ways.
2. Do Things You Enjoy
Do something new, or something that makes you feel good. Push yourself to do something or the other, even when you don’t feel like it. Play your favourite sport, take language classes, or just read a book. You will be surprised to see how much you feel better by indulging into these activities.
3. Eat Healthy
Do not skip meals and take a balanced diet; because what you eat has a direct impact on the way you feel. Eat super foods like bananas, spinach, and brown rice. And, reduce your intake of foods that can adversely affect your brain and mood; such as caffeine, alcohol, trans-fats, saturated fats, and foods with high levels of chemical preservatives or hormones.
4. Get Enough Sleep
Depression commonly involves sleep problems. Whether you’re sleeping too little or too much, your mood suffers. Therefore, make a proper schedule and get at least 8 hours of sleep everyday.
5. Don’t Isolate Yourself
You may feel that you’re bothering people with your problems, and you might like being alone all the time. Don’t do that! Talk to your family and friends. People who are close to you and care about you will appreciate you telling them about your problems, and they will support you to fight depression. Also, socialize with positive people; Do not meet anybody with a negative approach towards things and life.
