Worshipping God in different ways is not at all uncommon in God’s very own land, India! But what’s spooky and creepy about it is very strange and unethical practices. 1. Deviji Maharaj Mandir

Situated in Malajpur, near Betul in Madhya Pradesh, this temple is famous for casting out evil spirits and ghosts out of people’s bodies, who cast off spirits by lighting camphor on their wrists. There’s even a ‘bhoot mela’ that’s annually held to appease the ghosts.

 

2. The Bhangarh Gopinath temple

Situated inside the notoriously haunted Bhangarh Fort, this temple has its own share of creepy stories. It is said that the temple was cursed by a tantrik who was responsible for many deaths in the fort.

 

3. The Dattatreya Mandir in MP

Situated in Betul, this temple takes strangeness to a whole different level on full moon and new moon nights. crowd of people assemble to rid themselves of the evil spirits which they believe reside within them by yelling and abusing the Gods and they climb up walls and pillars in order to do that!

 

4. Sharda Devi Mandir in Maihar

One of the most important temples in Madhya Pradesh, the Sharda Maiiya temple is visited by countless devotees climbing more than 1000 stairs. The temple gates remain jammed from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. and it is believed that two dead devotees, Alah and Udal pray during this time and no one should ruin their bhakti!

 

5. Mahendipur Balaji Temple in Rajasthan

One of the rare places in India where you can see things like- live exorcism, people getting beaten up by brooms and many believers professing to be possessed! The way some devotees try to get rid of spirits is extreme, to say the least.
