Free Yourself From Fashion Rules and Make Your Own

Here are 5 fashion rules you have got to break now. Go, steal the spotlight.

Rule #1: You Can’t wear Denim to Office

A District Collector in Odisha may have barred people from wearing T-shirt and jeans while visiting him. But truth is that denim has acquired work wear status. You can wear them for interviews and formal dinners. Even the hitherto frowned upon the trend of ‘denim-on-denim’ is kosher now. The trick lies in pairing pieces of varying washed, light denim shirt with indigo jeans, or a dark jacket with a light wash, sky blue, pencil-fit denim skirt. Just remember: on trend yet office appropriate.

Tip: Play with proportion. Pair skinnies with airy chambray tunics or boot cut tops with fitted tops.

Rule #2: You have to wear red for your wedding

Buck the obvious choice and choose colors like soft pink, icy blue, or emerald and sunshine yellow. Throw attention to your sexy choli by ditching the dupatta.
You can choose black too, which was one considered inauspicious. For the mehendi and reception, black attire paired with metallics like gold or silver work.

Rule #3: You need a model figure to wear maxis and midis

Don’t have the famous Katrina Kaif curves? But then a few of us do. That doesn’t mean you can’t wear floor-grazing dresses, though. Focus on the right fit. For maxis, choose solid colors that skim the length of your body. For midi skirts, go for high waisted styles. Say ‘hi’ to heels, if not stilettos go for wedges.

Tip: Tie a top knot. It makes you look tall by creating a vertical line.

Rule #4: You can’t sport metallics as daywear

Sparkling accoutrements can be worn anytime of the day, provided you keep the look dressed down. As a subtle sparkle by sporting either knitwear, jackets, blouses, jeans, pants, skirts, our scarves that have a hint of lurex(gold or silver metallic thread) running through them. Here the overall shiny effect is restrained. Remember to stick to one sparkly item at a time.

Tip: sport a sequinned piece with simple separates-a white tee and jeans. Layer a dress with a chunky sweater to tone it down.

Rule #5: Men can’t wear pink

Gender fluidity is the new fashion buzzword. ‘Men in Pink’, in fact, was the top trend for most of the Fall 2016 fashion weeks. Take cues from Gucci and Pigalle to sport various shades of pink. If you don’t wish to go all out, start by sporting a pink shirt to work; it looks great with a suit as it complements most colors.

Also, get rid of these styling myths-
1. No socks for open toed shoes:
School girl chic is in! Pair silver shoes with black tights or gold tube socks with black heels.

2. Your shoes, belt, and bag must match
A playful mix of accessory adds to the look.

3. Less is more when it comes to accessories
It’s just a matter of personal preference. If you are good at the art of layering, do it.
