Many people these days use social media as a platform to showcase their talent. While few use it as a way to become a singer, some use it as a medium to become an artist. One such artist is Cinta Tort Cartró who is 21-year-old Spanish girl who uses Instagram to upload her work which celebrates the beauty of being a woman.
Working under the name zinteta, she makes whimsical rainbow art out of stretch marks and periods stains. Going through her profile would feel like going through the mind of a person who appreciates the pains a woman goes through. It would compel you to think that why are such things, which must be celebrated, are frowned upon.
You can see in her art, how she started to connect the work she created with the things around her. She said,
“It all started as a form of expression, but it quickly turned into social commentary of the male-dominated culture we live in. There are many things happening in my town that I couldn’t be silent on, such as the male microaggression toward the female body. I know there are countries that have it worse than here in Spain, but I couldn’t stay silent.”
Very boldly, the artist uses the hashtag #manchoynomedoyasco, which translates in English to “I stain myself, and I’m not grossed out by it.”
In one of the captions for a photo, she wrote: “All bodies have stains, hairs, freckles, stretch marks, curves, lines, wounds, wrinkles… and all are equally valid. It is time for us to begin to love ours because, after all, this is our tool of communication with the world. And if we do not like the tool we use for it, we can hardly feel free.”
Let’s have a look at the beautiful work of the artist…
