American singer-songwriter Madonna has been named ‘Woman Of The Year’. The Queen of Pop will be honored at the annual Women in Music event in New York on Dec. 9.
Music industry chart organization Billboard has named Madonna as its Woman of the Year for 2016, citing immense concert ticket sales, philanthropic work, and human rights advocacy, and her continuing status as a continuing best-selling recording artist.
“Madonna is one of a minuscule number of super-artists whose influence and career transcend music,” said the president and chief creative officer of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group, Janice Min.
“She is an inspiration to hundreds of millions of people around the world, all while shattering every career record out there.”
Lady Gaga took the honor of Billboard’s “Woman of the Year” last year. This year’s tribute to Madge puts her in the ranks of other past honorees that include Taylor Swift, Pink, Katy Perry and Beyoncé.
